Blake started cross country about 2 weeks ago. He has had practice 3 times a week for the past 2 weeks. I have watched him a couple times and he would run, then catch up with a friend, and then walk and talk with that friend for a bit, and then run again. I thought, "well at least he is getting exercise and having fun even if he doesn't really understand the concept of it being a race."
Today was his first zone meet. They have another one next Monday and then for those who qualify, there will be another one on October 18th. Here he is before the race. I went and made sure his shoes were tied tightly and gave him a big hug and high five.
He told me "when the gun went off it scared me. But then I knew I needed to go super fast."
same picture. close-up of Blake and B , towards the front, right after they started
Here he is crossing the finish line. He actually surprised me. I didn't expect him to be crossing as soon as he did. He got 7th place out of all the 1st grade boys (I am guessing around 60 kids). He said, "I dropped my name tag during the race and so I stopped and then said to myself, I am racing, I am not supposed to stop. So I started running again." He is sooooo cute.
Just after he got his number.
Proud 7th place, while eating his cookie :)
